Hi Friends, shoveling my way to you from a week long immersion in navigating notes on the page. I’m arranging tunes (for the upcoming Blur concert and the Nina Francis show), I’m learning new tunes (got a gig with Dianne Reeves coming up), composing songs (a new grant for my string group with choir) and checking notes on my solo guitar arrangements. It’s a full schedule but it’s great—wouldn’t want it any other way. I’m thinking of changing the name of my studio to “Notes ‘R Us.”

Last week we had a wild gig at the PB Surf Shop. A big turnout with a few classic surf stars in tow. We got into some extended jams and Kevyn brought her drum set and was laying down a beautiful backbeat. Lookout Jack Dejohnette!

Here is the vibe at the PB Surf Shop. Gunnar is playing the bow, Kevyn is singing and behind us are some insane surfboards. Great to be in good company.

My solo gig at the L’Auberge in Del Mar has been cooking along and earlier this week I had a bunch of folks hanging out including a semi intoxicated fellow who tripped out when I successfully guessed that his wife was from Russia. Her accent gave it away but he was so busy visiting outer space that he couldn’t quite figure out how I put it together. I’m a scientist of rock, that’s how!

I’ll be at the Roxy tonight playing solo guitar and on Saturday night Kevyn Lettau and I will be playing there for our monthly music session. Hope you can make it out!

Fred Benedetti, brother Tripp and I have a group called Blurring the Edges and we’re thrilled to be playing a special house concert on Sunday night in Cardiff. House concerts are super fun and include great music in an intimate setting, intermission desserts, interesting people and even couches to sit on. For this show I’ve added two new compositions that we’re polishing up as we speak. “Mundaka” is a modern day surf tune and “The Poet” visits a sonic world lifted from the wisdom of Ralph Waldo Emerson. Look below for the details on the concert and how you can get tickets online.

I’m zipping off to Denver on Monday to play a concert with Dianne Reeves and the Colorado Symphony. Marvin Hamlisch is conducting and it should be a magical night. If you have any friends in Denver let them know that we’ll be there.

Looking off into next week, after I get back from my trip we’re putting a hit together at the Tango with young vocalist Nina Francis. We'll play some Joni, some Stevie, The Beatles, Cole Porter, some originals and even a reworking of “The Christmas Song.” Looking foward to this one.

And looking even further out, please consider hanging out with us on New Year’s Eve at Ki’s Restaurant in Cardiff. It’ll be Kevyn, Gunnar and I traveling into the New Year with bossa nova and good company.

all the best, Peter
