Greetings Friends in Sound, I hope this note finds you well. My daughter made her way to school and I guess this marks the semi-passing of the summer of ’06. It was a good one but I’m still riding out the last edges as we speak. My plan is to finish this gig email and then weave my way to the big blue for a saltwater infusion before the Childs shed sesh begins. It’s a good life…

My friend Billy Stern created a cool profile of me in the latest issue of The Beach Break News. He leans towards the similarities of riding a sound wave and an ocean wave and hey, I’m a candidate for that. Getting barreled at Swami’s mixed with a late drop into Giant Steps. What we’re you up to back in ’89? Most likely good things and for me and the gang ’89 found us at a hippy music festival in inland Del Mar shredding on a Chick fusion tune. Creative organizer Richard Carter put together this happening and bassist Dave Curtis, drummer Danny Campbell, percussionists Dave Hampton and Bongo Bob, soprano saxophonist Tripp joined me in some live music. Luckily they had a video crew and captured the bohemian magic of it all. I’ve added the video to my website and if you click on the picture to the right you can take it in realtime…

Vocalist Kevyn Lettau and I played many duo shows and I’ve added a video of a 1990 live gig to my website. There used to be a cool bookstore in Hillcrest called Words and Music that came complete with an animated fellow named Victor who ran the circus there. We loved that spot and if you click on the picture to the right you’ll be jettisoned to some of Kevyn’s stellar groove on Jobim’s “Waters of March”.

A couple of years back we had a band called Brasilia that included Holly Hofman, Mike Wofford, Kevin Hennessy, Tom Aros, Duncan Moore, and myself as its members. We had fun playing live gigs around and in 2001 we took the group into KPBS’s Studio and did a live Club Date taping. Paul Marshall directed and cut the show and I’ve added one song from the hour program to my video page. Click on guitaring Peter to the right to check us out playing “Tania”.

My updated website was redesigned by John Paul Jones and Jamie Kim from Shadowlight Studios. John Paul has a long history of album design and back in the day designed some award winning iconic covers for Carlos Santana. These creative artists are also very involved in the SD music world and are true supporters of jazz. Jamie is also a wonderful violinist and has her own recordings. The sad part of it is that John Paul is now battling cancer. This Sunday at Dizzy’s there will be a benefit concert for John Paul celebrating his artistic vision and creative spirit. A great crew of musos will gather and play and I’m in there too. Click on the image to the right for more details…

This week we’re stoked to play at the Inn L. in Del Mar. Look below for the details if you're thinking you can make it. I hope to see you out there…

adios, Peter
