Hi Friends, I’m just back after a late night gig in L.A. at Spazio—lotsa pasta, lots of notes, and a high volume of car time. Weird life I’m living but on many levels it’s working out.

A quick progress report—I’m happy to pass along that our String Consort project is doing well and we have one more recording day to lay down the last 2 songs. Other than that, the rest of the tunes are mixed and I’m projecting the CD will brave it into the real world come mid-July. I’m liking how it’s sounding and it’ll fun to share it with you all...

Nuts and bolts photo of the view from my recent days recording the String Consort project. 2 mics, the guitar tuner and a stand to hold the 10 page double coda ridden charts. Halleluja!

For this week I’m teaming up with vocalist Tokeli for a night of samba at Anthology. She’s assembled a great group of musos and the song list embraces the lush world of Brazil’s bossa nova mixed in with a little back beat. Coolness pervades! Look below for details.

My good friend and vocalist Kevyn Lettau has moved back to San Diego! Kevyn grew up here in Del Mar and we’ve played in bands since the mid 70’s. Do you remember “Dance of the Universe” or “BrasilJazz”? Check out our first recording “You Make Me Want To Sing”. Hilarious really—super young and enthusiastic musos trying to make sense of a recording studio with Butch Lacy at the helm. It was an inspired chapter and Kevyn was bringing it full on with her mix of Ella, Betty Carter and Flora Purim. As the years marched on Kevyn made the trek to L.A. and sang and recorded with Sergio Mendes’ Brasil ’88. From there she developed her own career of touring and putting out a beautiful collection of original music. More recently Kevyn was the head of the vocal department at the Los Angeles Music Academy and helped guide the next generation of vocalists. Ultimately she felt she did her time in L.A. and really wanted to live in a cooler spot that felt like home. We’re all happy that she’s living down here now and will be in the loop for some great music. Here is her contact info if you think she’s the right fit for some live music. She’s also doing private vocal instruction.

Look for some upcoming concerts in July with Kevyn joining in with my band of merry pranksters. Long live Ken Kesey and Ram Dass! Be here now! You’re either on the bus or off the bus!

Kevyn Lettau and Peter

That’s it good people and I hope to see you out there….best, Peter
