Friends, life is good. We had a fantastic gig last weekend up at Soka. Keezer and I drove up together and talked about music and then veered off into the downsides of fructose as a sweetener. What do you know about that? Also, there’s a floating world of plastic waste in the Pacific Ocean that won’t degrade and I’m thinking we’ve got to limit how plastic flows in and out of our lives. So this is how jazz musos spend their idle drive time? Next, we’re sitting in the green room, waiting to go on, thinking we need a proper band name. We’ve been using the “Geoffrey Keezer / Peter Sprague Quartet” as our launch point but it’s a bit wordy. So to fit the moment, our name at least for that last show was, “The Fructose Plastic Ono Orchestra." I don’t think it’ll stick but it was a fun moment to spin through.

Tomorrow night we’re pulling the deets together for a cool hit at Point Loma Nazarene University in San Diego. Our angle is putting our jazz and Brazilian spin onto the magic songs of Stevie Wonder. It’s a natural fit ‘cuz Stevie is all about groove mixed in with jazz harmonic color. Come and hang with us and dig on Rebecca’s version of Creepin’ among many other cool Leonard moments.

Playing the Stevie Wonder music back a few years ago. This was a magical night at the old Dizzy's with (left to right) Leonard with beard, the back of my head, Amber Whitlock, Rebecca with a 'fro, Tripp, Josh Nelson, Bob Magnusson and David Anderson.

Also this week is a Blurring the Edges concert featuring Fred Benedetti, Tripp Sprague and myself. We’ll play our unique tunes that blur the worlds of jazz, classical, Brazilian and flamenco.

Peter and Fred deep in the trance.

Thursdays are all about the Roxy gig in Encinitas and it’s been going really well. It’s solo guitar night and believe it or not, last week I got a standing ovation for my version of Birdland. It was only one fellow standing and clapping and he’s a friend, does this still count? Hahhhh...

Last up on the week is a trio show at Harry’s in La Jolla with bro’ Tripp, Gunnar on the bass and myself. Look below for the info. Big fun!

That’s it good folks. Thanks for reading and hope to see you out there, Peter
