Dear Friends, and still the Santa Ana winds continue on as Miles and Gil Evans play on the box. Sketches of Spain mixed in with Springsville and all is quiet on the western edge.

Yesterday was a traffic maze leading through the asphalt mayhem finally arriving 3 hours later at the House of Blues on Sunset Blvd, Los Angeles, California. Have you ever been to that place? Inside the setup is 3 huge floors of completely detailed interior celebrating hippies and Indian fabric, Buddha and Krishna statues everywhere and incense burning, jazz in the upstairs, the middle floor is the restaurant and the lower floor seats 1200 modern kids getting pumped to hear NoFX. The outside of the building is so cool looking—like a funky house in Louisiana with a porch and corrugated metal siding— all of this propped up on “fancy” Sunset Boulevard.

House of Blues Parish Room.

The reason for the House of Blues hang was pianist Geoffrey Keezer scored a gig and alongside him and bassist Hamilton Price, was happily me spinning it out on the guitar. Big fun and Mr. Keezer is something! After living in NYC and playing with a zillion jazz icons he’s moved to San Diego and we’re thrilled that he’s here. I’m hoping for more music with him downwind and please check out his site and listen to his music if you haven’t already…

Geoffry Keezer, Hamilton Price, Peter

For this week I’m taking part in a most unique concert series called the “Short Attention Span Chamber Music Series.” The idea is to play a really short set and if folks don’t like your music, well, they haven’t wasted their life on your view of art—they can move right into the next errand on their list. And if they like what you did then they can forever wish that you’d continue on but unfortunately the guidelines clearly spelled out in the contract state that the artist would only play for 30 minutes. So it’s a funny premise and I’ve done it before but it all works out. It takes place in the uber-cool Giesel Library at U.C.S.D. and if you’ve got a spare 30 minutes hiding in your backpack, I’ll see you there…

Up for Friday eve at Dizzy’s is a duo guitar show with Fred Benedetti and myself. We’ve done a few of these lately and they've been a lot of fun with creative back road exploration mixed with electronic soundscapes and some soft stuff added for good measure. An aural feast if I can be so bold…

happy trails, Peter
