Dear Friends, lets see, since the last time I saw you it’s been about doing gigs, searching for little windows of time to work on my composing and getting stung by a sting ray. This is actually the second time I’ve gotten snapped and it bleeds and hurts and then you put your foot in super hot water and life is back to normal again. Magic! And then you take your foot out and it starts hurting again. This carries on for an hour or so and then the only thing left to remember the little critter by is a slash in your foot. I still love the wild blue though and I’m going back for more today…

For the last 3 days I’ve been recording some wonderful musos from Argentina who I met while playing in Cabo last May. The band is led by drummer Pedro Cervera and he and his cohorts live in Cabo ‘cuz that’s where there are still some decent paying gigs versus the gig situation in Buenos Aires. Pedro has written some cool tunes and we had fun offering them up to the Gods of the Digital Cree, or in layman’s terms, the Pro Tools rig. It sounds great and I’ll let you know when the CD surfaces into the real world.

We had a wonderful meal together after completing Pedro's recording project. Stef cooked up some fantastic Indian food. From the left to right, Peter, Rocky (small smart dog), Stef, Mercedes, Pedro, Sabino, Mario and Howie.

For this week I’ll be heading out tomorrow to Temecula to play a concert at the Merc with Tripp and Gunnar. We’ve got a great trio vibe going, still resonating off the Library tour of 2008, and to pair this up with the fantastic sound and feeling of the Merc, friends, I’m thinking it’s a shoe in.

On Saturday night I’m thrilled to be reconnecting with Maestro Benedetti for a concert in Encinitas sponsored by the San Diego Folk Heritage Society. Fred and I usually do this series once a year and it’s always a highlight. They have great sound set in a good listening space and as soon as we play that first note we’re not sure where it’s all heading but it’s a guaranteed great ride and journey. Hop in!

Brother Leonard has been super committed to the long run of Godspell at the Horton Grand Theatre and I’ve been having a hard time getting him on gigs lately. I miss his music and I’m thrilled to be playing a show this Sunday Night at Tango del Rey in Pacific Beach. It’ll be Leonard, Gunnar and myself and I can’t wait to hear him play muted trumpet with his voice and bring back the funk of Stevie Wonder while scatting a bop tune. Stoke!

This guy can sing! Leonard Patton.

That’s it for now folks and keep the sky in your head…
