Hello Good People, we’re just back from a magical hike in the green world of Idyllwild. We camped out for 2 days in Dark Canyon and played a zillion bars of the “life is so good” blues around the campfire. Whack factor 12!

I’ve got a great week of music brewing starting with my weekly solo guitar installment at the Roxy in Encinitas. It’s a welcome contrast, the hours in the studio with endless details, to land at the Roxy and let life and music just unfold in the moment. Zen, art and the falafel...

Next up it’ll be a House Concert with our dynamic trio of Leonard, Tripp and myself at John and Kim’s house in Cardiff. We’ve done these shows before and it’s always a good moment. You’ve got music in a big living room and everyone is part of the creative process. Plus there’s a break in the middle in which we all sit around and eat cookies and give our ears a rest. For this show we’ll put a set together of our best originals, new directions in Marley, wondrous Stevie Wonders, natural Nat King Cole’s and mysto Metheny’s. And to open up the concert will be a short set by young vocalist/guitarist Nina Francis plus one tune by our guitar-slinging host Mister John. Big fun and hope you can join in. Look below for the details and tickets...

The Sprague 1000 Water Meter coming to a house concert near you.

We’re returning to the premier music club Anthology on May 31 for a night of Peter Sprague Plays Metheny. For this concert we’re exploring Pat’s amazing tunes and putting our own spin on them. Out of the gate his pieces are inspiring and challenging and I’ve assembled a great group to bring this music to the stage. My brother Tripp will be playing sax/flute and synth, Josh Nelson is on keyboards, Gunnar Biggs is on bass, Duncan Moore on drums, myself on guitar and Leonard Patton on vocals. If you’re into Metheny’s music you know that he has a fair amount of vocals on his tunes but pretty much never includes lyrics for the vocals. I’ve collaborated with lyricist Randy Phillips on this project and she’s come up with some beautiful stories for Metheny’s tunes. Leonard will be the aural visionary as we weave through “Are You Going With Me?”, “Change of Heart”, “Song for Bilbao”, “Lone Jack”, “Travels”, and many more. It’s going to be a special night of music and I hope you can join in for the ride. Details are below...

Pat Metheny azure trancing...

Right after the Anthology hit I’m flying up to SF for a gig at Yoshi’s with vocalist Jennifer Lee. She just completed a wonderful new recording at my studio and we’re blasting off the revolution starting in the Bay Area. Check out the music on her site and let me know what you think. Please pass the word to your compadres up north if you think they might be into it!

Jennifer Lee

And the last thing for this gig email is I invite you to visit a collection of ultra creative and funny insights into what it is to be a muso clear cutting it out in these days of the music business meltdown. Do you know Geoffrey Keezer? He’s one of my favorite musicians ever and this fellow not only can stir up insanity on the piano but also add into the mix his gift as a full on word avatar. I’m not kidding! I just got back from a spin to his online blog and I’ve been laughing for the last 20 minutes. On fire! Hilarious! Keezer on piano, Keezer on words! Bravo! Please check it out for yourself and see what happens...

Happy trails, Peter
