Heya, just back from scorching hot Tacoma, Washington launching our daughter into the corridors of the University of Puget Sound. What an emotional ride of pure stoke contrasting with tear evoking mental scans of our life together and the realization that life will have a different spin to it now. We’re still in the thick of it and I remember others have survived and so we shall too. Grid Iron Beef Jerky and the Vegan Crusaders! That’ll be the name of my new band once I make it through this time. |

Pat Metheny just had a birthday and we’re pulling together our band to play a night of his music in celebration. Way back in 1975 I took a couple of lessons with Pat in Boston and he’s been my main man since. His guitar playing is off the Richter, his composing has influenced jazz in the biggest way, and his endless enthusiasm to continue to develop new music and artistic directions is a true inspiration. This cat does not stop and I love that about him.
This brings us to Thursday night at the Tango del Rey as we play “The Fields, The Sky”, “Minuano”, “Lone Jack”, “Travels”, “Missouri Uncompromised”, “Have You Heard”, “Are You Going With Me” and on it’ll go for a 2 hour straight set. The real challenge here is to suffer through the agony of eliminating songs that we love but can’t fit in because of time constraints. Some year I want to do a Metheny Marathon and we’ll shoot for an entry into the Guinness Book of Worlds Records for the longest Metheny continual set of music. I’m thinking 87 hours straight ending with his anthem “Last Train Home”. You in? Look below for the details. |

Also up for this week is a night of the twin neck guitars seeking out beauty in sound. It’ll be maestro Fred Benedetti and me hitting at Ki’s in Cardiff on Friday night. Big fun near the ocean!
We’re taking the Metheny Circus to Idyllwild this weekend for the Jazz Festival. The whole town turns into a music hang and the weather is perfect and the presence of a zillion trees is inspiring. Lots of clean air up there! It’ll be the Metheny music on Saturday night and then Sunday night we’re assembling the String Consort group for a sonic essay in jazz meets classical. Consider venturing forth into the great expanse east of the 15. The fields, the sky…
That’s it!
adios, Peter |

Pat Metheny is probably my favorite contemporary composer! For this concert we're playing Pat's music with our own unique angle, many of the songs have lyrics to them with Leonard singing. It's a great band and to live in Metheny's world is pure bliss! |
