Friends, it turns out playing a gig at the Hollywood Bowl creates a lot of extra noise. Super positive noise from Dianne at the press conference afterwards, alphabetical whirlwind noise from my favorite jazz journalist Robert Bush, visual pixel oriented noise from Alan’s photo (check it out below), and then, weird as it sounds, actual audience noise when really you’d want it to be pin drop quiet. There we were, (and it was the same for all of the other acts as well), playing our hearts out as the huge audience took it in peripherally, as an addition to their socializing food and drink goings on. Wild reallybig time concert with music as the sideshow. It’s not as I would of thought it to be.
I had a great time anyway and Anat Cohen’s tenor solo was a real highlight. She’s coming to SD soon and I’m bummed to miss her gig. I’ll be out of town but maybe she’ll come around again.
