Hi There Good Folks, I’m tuning back in after unplugging for a week down south. It was a fantastic week and I’ve got some images to share. Keep reading!

First off, in case you missed the Road Work Ahead World Domination Tour of 2012, here is a pretty cool YouTube clip taken from the show we played at the Tango del Rey in PB a few weeks back. Check out Jim Plank’s insane steaming swing groove that propels the band. To play over that thing is like Nascar meets some magic world where gravity disappears, like outer space maybe, like Nascar Galaxy gone wild! Both 14 lane freeway easy and stable mixed with outrunning the police QUICK. Plank’s the ONE!

This is me and the Fender Rhodes trying to come to some agreement at the RWA Tango gig. I've got the top off and I'm trying to Zen will the middle C key from misbehaving. It finally succumbed but then later the sustain pedal went out for a drink. Classic vintage soul!

I just got back from a surfing/music trip to the tip of Baja with my brother Tripp and bassist/noserider specialist Bob Magnusson. We pull this excursion together usually once a year and it consists of playing a few shows to finance the whole dream blending into a week of surfing and professional slo-mo living. Bob has a cool cousin that has a big house on the beach that serves as command central as we launch out on various surf and food hunting exhibitions. We scored some great surf on this run with many thanks to H20 guru Jeff King. He knew where it was happening and he had 30 surfboards at his house to help make it all real. The combination of warm water, great surf, fantastic folks, new friends, jazz music nights, the amazing Flora Farms, Guyackamaya with Mike Doyle and an eager mariachi guitarist, the endless aisles of MEGA, mangos, and the multi-spirited chip and salsa sessions made this one of the best getaways ever! Can’t wait to go back…

Up for this week is a Thursday solo guitar night at The Roxy in Encinitas. I’m so happy to be back into this swirl—just me making things up on the fly and using my feet to push the magic pedals of sonic wizardry. Jump in!

Saturday finds me pulling off a two-gig sprint. First up it’ll be at the Encinitas Community Center in the afternoon playing a FREE concert led by violinist Bridget Dolkas with Lars Hoefs on cello and myself on guitar. The theme is “The Paris – Rio Connection” and Bridget has selected some music the travels to both of these worlds. I just finished an arrangement of Jobim’s “Passarim” for the three of us and I can’t wait to see how it works. Let me know.

Darting from there I zero in on the San Dieguito United Methodist Church in Encinitas to play a show with Maestro Benedetti. Fred rips on the guitar and I think the sonic vistas that we visit as a duo are both creative and challenging. We carry a little humor in our back pocket too and let that loose when the moment is right. Hope to see you there!

Fred has a zillion guitars and it's all cool 'cuz he can PLAY!

Last up for the week is a Sunday afternoon concert in Oceanside with guitarist Mundell Lowe, Bob Magnusson, Duncan Moore and me. Mundell is a jazz legend and has been at it forever. He’s the sweetest guy and he knows a ton of mysto chords—I’d like some of those, hey brother can you spare an F# augmented fermented beauty? Come and join us and let’s see what Mundell pulls out of his guitar.

That’s the word for today friends, thanks for following along and all good things until the next time.
