Hi Folks! Slim gigs this week and it’s a good thing in that I just completed one of two commissions and I’m taking a rest before I jump into the next adventure of attempting to pull musical ideas out of thin air. It’s an enormous undertaking and the last composition clocked in at 21 minutes long with around 630 measures. It sounds like I write for the shear length of it —that’s all I care about, hah!

It reminds me of a record producer that I worked with back in the ‘80’s. His idea of a “good” take was not really how it sounded or if there were mistakes but more importantly, how LONG the tune was. We’d just played the head poorly, played some uninspired solos and his reaction was always, “great take! Let’s move on to the next tune.” That’s called record producing with the almighty buck leading the way.

So with all of this, I’m feeling good about how life is unfolding and I’ll share some good vibes tonight at the Roxy in Encinitas—solo guitar drifting in the Encinitas glow. This is my only gig this week and I hope to see you there if you can pull it off.

hang ten, Peter

p.s. I almost forgot, we reigned in a fantastic review on our new “Mill Creek Road” recording in All About Jazz.com. Robert Bush, the reviewer, dug the music and we thank him for hearing what we’re hearing.
