Hola Good People, it’s been a great week for us and the music and most certainly the highlight was last week’s show with the String Consort at the Museum of Art in Balboa Park. Thanks to all that made it out and we had a wonderful time weaving through the madness of those compositions. Tricky stuff indeed but in the hands of these gifted musos the music lifted off and hovered at times near the tall ceilings of the hall. Hello up there, you only need to return to earth in a week or so to deal with the big TAX day. Urggggg. Special thanks to Holly Hofmann and Paige for making the evening happen so smoothly.

I’ve worked out my new gig schedule and I’ve listed the dates all the way from now until November. I’ll add new dates as they come up. The cool news is I’m going to start touring with supreme jazz vocalist Dianne Reeves. She’s one of my heroes and I have all of her recordings and what a stoke to be in the loop with her and the group. I think she heard about me through my friends Billy Childs and Geoffrey Keezer, both who play in her band at different times. From there she contacted me and now I’m lined up to do a little California run in May and then a Europe tour in July. I’ll list the Euro dates and details a little further down the line. Maybe I’ll see you in France in July! Dianne has a new CD coming out in a week and that’ll be the main music we’ll be playing on her shows. Big fun!

From time to time I work with the composer Michael Roth on music for theatrical plays and we just finished an interesting project for the South Coast Repertory Theatre in Orange County. Michael’s abilities as a composer are broad and in the past he’s written music that goes all the way from ultra modern free form to full on campy Gilbert and Sullivan and touching on many styles in between. The latest project that we just completed has my guitar playing as the main centerpiece to the whole composition. I’m playing many different acoustic guitars and we’ve got the rock guitar angle in there too, all of this supported by cello, violins, bass and drums. Really interesting stuff. If you want to see the play and hear the music loud and coming through a bunch of different speakers, click the logo to the right and this will take you to the SCR website for tickets and details.

I’ve just worked out the nuts and bolts for ALBUM ART to be included on downloads from my online store. What this means is that now when you download a song or a whole album from my website store you’ll also get a PDF version of the album art. I don’t know if you’re like me but I like to thumb through the pictures and the details of whose playing on the recording as I’m listening to the music. How about the old days of really big phonograph record album art? I have a feeling that that isn’t coming back but maybe this can be the next best thing. If you want to jump to the store, click on the PS Plays Solo logo to the right and you’ll be off and running…

For this week’s music, I’m heading up to L.A. to play a duo concert with vocalist Kevyn Lettau. She’s the original member of our early super group Dance of the Universe Orchestra and she’s still making beautiful music. We’re thrilled to be playing again and the duo setting offers both a challenge and wide musical freedom. Kevyn has a bunch of new tunes that she’s written with YellowJackets keyboardist Russell Ferrante and to this we’ll add our old favorites from our BrazilJazz recording. Can’t wait! We’re also bringing the same musical program to Dizzy’s next week so keep a look out…

And the last news is yep, I’ll be at the ever-inspiring Roxy Restaurant on Thursday further exploring the solo guitar and deluxe strawberry smoothies.

all the best, Peter
