Hi Friends, spinning in the wind today and it’s good to be writing from a warm and dry perch. I’m in the office overlooking some white caps out in the ocean and just loving this change of weather. Stir it up, little darlin’, stir it up…

I had a couple of cool outdoor hits last weekend. The Encinitas Library gig was super fun with perfect weather and my act followed believe it or not, Bubbles the Clown. I’m laughing! You know that scene in Spinal Tap where their career is on a downhill slope and instead of playing arenas they’re playing a “freeform jazz improvisational set” at a county fair? Classic! The career arc of an artist takes some interesting bends. Hah! I’ll take it all just as long as it still includes opportunities to play creative music for a few spirited folks.

Also over the weekend I set up right next to the Coast Highway in Solana Beach for the annual Trail Rail event. It was great fun really! I was right under a majestic Torrey Pines tree and all was peaceful and pleasant until the Harley Davidson crew terrorized the airwaves with their exhaust pipes. These days, you gotta be creative where you play and if this means sharing the airspace with 500 horsepower of classic American machinery, bring it on!

The plan for this week is to play solo guitar on Thursday night at the Roxy in Encinitas. Following this up I’ll be at Ki’s in Cardiff on both Friday and Saturday nights. On Friday it’ll be a duo with Bob Magnusson and myself, and on Saturday night Fred Benedetti and his double neck guitar will join me for some sonic mischief. Can’t wait!

On Sunday I’ll play the Coronado Boathouse solo gig, which by the way has been pretty cool with a few full on listeners and then a bunch of regular folks thinking that the music is a good addition to their conversation. This still works for me. I’ll zip from this gig over to San Diego Troubadour’s fundraiser concert and throw down a few ditties with Leonard Patton.

This is new—we’re starting an every other Monday night jazz trio hit in Leucadia at the Calypso Cafe. We use to play this gig and had some wonderful times. Then they weren’t allowed to have amplification and so we bowed out. About a year ago they had a kitchen fire and closed up for repairs and this took about a year to pull together. Now they are open and I went over there and the place looks fantastic. Great vibe too and I’m thinking it’ll be a great way to spend an early Monday night—making music close to home.

Look below for the gig details.

That’s it good people and thanks for reading. Keep the sky in your head!

adios, Peter
