Hello Friends, coming at you from a very cold Leucadia—ice mornings with howling offshore winds. It looks like winter has officially arrived.

Do you know about Taylor Guitars? This San Diego based guitar company is one of the biggest worldwide players in acoustic guitars and how cool is it that they started here and remain local? For this week I’m lugging a couple of my Taylor’s to play at the NAMM show in Anaheim and I’m bracing for mayhem and debauchery. Survival of the fittest and the eternal quest for a parking spot…

Peter and the Taylor T5

The big lean for the week is our show at Dizzy’s on Friday evening playing the music of Pat Metheny. Over the years we’ve done an annual concert like this and it’s always been a true highlight. As a guitarist and composer Metheny is one of my absolute favorites and his music is a magical blend of midwestern folklore, the lilt of the samba, and the quirk factor of Ornette Coleman. We’ve got an ace band intact to pull it off and we’ve added a couple of new tunes to the mix. Have you heard the new Metheny / Meldau recording? Insane beauty! From this recording we’ve added “Bachelor’s III” into the loop plus our pal Randy Phillips came up with some new lyrics for Pat’s tune “Travels” from his cd Travels. It’s gonna be a stellar eve and I hope you can make it out…

Pat Metheny

Also in the whirl of this week is a Saturday trek to the always on a different orbital rotation Del Dios Bar and Grill. Yes indeed folks, no laws exist out there and jazz lives dangerously…

shiverin’… Peter
