Greetings good ones who have their ears open, completely technical times over hear at SpragueLand this week. The main system that I use to record on is a hardware and software based computer rig called Pro Tools—insane technology with a price tag to fit the innovation. Serious business! Last week I installed the updated version and what I thought might take a couple of days morphed into a whole week and if I had a couple of more days to tighten up some loose ends, well, I could use those too. Typical with cables and hunting down their rightful connections, it just snowballs into a madhouse of disorganization. Plastic spaghetti—where does this yellow one go? And then it’s the endless “push star 5 for Mbox support, or star 6 for PT HD support” telephone tech support wait to get some crucial questions answered. I’m glad to say it’s up and running and is everything that they say it would be. Brilliant innovation in sound and form, “you want to sound like Coltrane but you’ve only been playing the sax for two weeks?”—I’ve got you covered. Not true really—if you want to sound like ‘Trane you better start practicing and you’re only allowed eating and bathroom privileges for the next 30 years. See ya in the shed…
For this week I’m again soloing it at the Roxy. I had a stellar time last week. A bunch of good friends made it out, ate some excellent food and took in my music. I know I had fun and it appeared that the mix of sound and the classic Encinitas hang time worked on those in attendance.
Also on Friday night we’re gathering Leonard, Tripp, and myself to stir it up at Ki’s. Leonard is blowing my mind these days with his singing. You gotta hear this cat shape the sound and pull the poetry into the present moment—magic and moving. And bro’ Tripp adding a rainbow of color from his horns, percussion, and flute. Good times in Cardiff ahead!
That’s the story for this week.
