Friends, attention to detail, taken to the maximum degree, freakin’ 8 hours per tune—details that almost drove this muso engineer mad. For the past 6 days I’ve been mixing a project with Israeli composer Ariel Blumenthal for the upcoming Malashock Dance World Premiere of “Fathom, the Body as Universe.” Ariel creates these incredible sonic journeys built from wacked out synth sounds, organic Tibetian bells scraped together, wah wah trumpet, and about 2000 more components, each manipulated with flangers, ping pong delays, and cavernous reverb chambers. We’re talking the most tracks my Pro Tools rig has ever dealt with. And the good thing about all of this is that Senor Blumenthal knows what he’s doing. I dig his music. The sonicscapes that he’s created flow in tandem with John Malashock’s choreography, renowned Japanese artist Junko Chodos art pieces, percussionist Steven Schick’s live playing, the live voices of the San Diego Master Chorale and all together as FATHOM. I haven’t seen it fully integrated yet but some additional great news is that they’re performing the piece this and next week at the newly renovated North Park Theatre on University Avenue in San Diego. I’m going and I sure hope you can spin it too. It should be something. (click on the logo to the right to be transported to details).

This morning I finished arranging the last couple of tunes for the upcoming Stevie Wonder Tribute gig we’re doing at Dizzy’s on Friday. I put some new harmonic moves to “Creepin’” and “If It’s Magic” and let “Living For The City” just stay as it is—funky and roots. Other tunes we’re jumping into are “Love’s In Need”, “Sir Duke”, “Send One Your Love”, “I Wish” morphed into some Coltrane Love Supreme, “Knock’s Me Off My Feet”, “Sweetest Somebody” (from Stevie’s newest recording), “As If You Read My Mind”, “Bird of Beauty”, and the list goes on. Some spectacular music this dude wrote! Tonight Leonard and the vocalists are coming over to iron out the kinks and later in the week the band is honing it realtime. It’s going to be a great evening of music and I hope to see you there. StevieLand!

Also for this week I’m hooking up with the OB fusion band TapWater to play at Humphrey’s. These guys are cool and I’m stoked to be included into their creative twirl.

Solo guitar on Monday at the elegant Fresh in La Jolla—deluxe food and they tell me the sound of the guitar fits right in. It’s one of my favorites.

That’s it for now. Hope to see you out there…

best, Peter
