Dear Friends, fancy this — today is the Spring Equinox when day and night become equal in length, summer is sneaking in and Coltrane is on rotation within iTunes. A deluxe blendo if I can say so myself. I hope your day is starting off right too…

This week in the studio I had the young ones from Bishops School over to document their latest work. They were here last year and it was thrilling to take in their magnified improvement from their last hit. They were tearing it up from Monk to Bill Evans to John Lewis and ending on Herbie’s “Actual Proof” which contains large doses of twisted rhythmic figures that they took head on and nailed. I loved it! Great spirit in these kids too, they were kind to each other and if you can believe it, kind to their moms and other assorted grown ups which is semi rare for the teen angst profile. Full on trend bucking and I’m thinking, wherever they land in the world it stands to be better off having these young jazzers in the loop.

For this week I’ve got a concert planned for Sunday at the 101 Artist Colony in Encinitas. It’ll be myself along with Leonard and Lisa on vocals and Gunnar low ending it. We’ve been refining this set of new music for the last couple of months and I’m really excited to send it off to good ears. The performance space at the Artist Colony is set up for full on concert listening and combine this with Danny’s (the boss at the Colony) spirited introductions and it’ll be a great evening of music in Encinitas. I hope you can make it out…

that’s it, Peter
